Still Hardy After All This Heat

I love flowers in my yard and through the years, I have learned what flowers will withstand this South Carolina sultry heat without ending up looking like "the last rose of summer".  When we moved to Easley 4 years ago, the folks that lived here before had NO flowers, so it was a blank canvas for me to plant all my favorite sun and heat friendly flowers.
If you are searching for low maintenance plants that give a great pop of color and don't wilt by days end, check out my list of favorites: Purslane (vibrant magenta and yellow), Portulaca (LOTS of rich colors), and Lantana (again, several colors and LOVE this plant AND certain varieties come back each year!) Sunpatiens are great too as well as Mandevilla which comes in bush or vine form. And how can we leave out the great Hibuscus? With huge blossoms and beautiful colors, you cant go wrong!
Whether you just want to spruce up your yard for your own enjoyment, or, if you are trying to sell your home, remember that a great punch of color on the front can add a great curb appeal to your home. You would be surprised at how just a couple of pots of "happy" and colorful flowers on the front can make folks stop and look!
Happy gardening!
