According to an Independent Mail article written by Abe Hardesty on July 29, asbestos was being removed from the former site of the Liberty Denim manufacturing plant in Liberty. Meanwhile, Liz Havlin took a step forward in her plans to bringing new life to the old structure.  Havlin, a Seattle resident who plans to lease the property after much of its walls are demolished, hired the first two staff members of the infant Liberty Denim USA organization Monday and clarified plans to eventually hire 50 over the next three months.

Havlin, who with husband Henry is leasing the property with an option to buy, plans to hire approximately 50 employees in early September. The goal calls for a cut-and-sew venture to be operational by late October, although it is likely to be on a limited basis at the outset. Within two to five years, Havlin plans to bring what is left to the mill back to the denim-producing glory that added vitality to the community and 150 jobs to its residents. As a prelude, the short-term goal will be the operation of a cut-and-sew company that will employ about 50 people — including two that were hired Monday. The job descriptions for those first 50 will be vague; she hopes that at least half of those hires will be military veterans. She plans to begin taking job applications for Liberty Denim USA in early September.
