At its October 7, 2014 meeting, the Board of Directors of the Western Upstate Association of REALTORS® voted to endorse efforts to encourage passage of a one cent sales tax in Anderson County. The RPAC / Legislative Committee has also endorsed this effort. As proposed, the one cent sales tax increase will be used to provide property tax relief and to pay the cost of education capital improvement projects in Anderson County. The proposed tax increase will be used as follows:
  • At least twenty percent of the proceeds must be used to reduce property taxes by offsetting the existing debt service millage levy on general obligation bonds of any school district in Anderson County
  • For the installation, maintenance, and improvement of security and public safety measures in each school district in Anderson County
  • For the acquisition or updating of technology hardware, software, and the necessary infrastructure in each school district in Anderson County
  • For constructing, improving, and equipping a facility for career and technical education
  • For repairing or replacing roofs and HVAC systems for any school buildings
  • For constructing, improving, renovating, and equipping any instructional, fine arts, or athletic facilities
  • For acquiring student transportation vehicles in each school district
The Board of Directors and our Legislative Committee felt strongly that the reduction of property taxes by offsetting the existing debt service millage levy on the general obligation bonds would do much to assist the property owners of Anderson County and that support for local schools and facilities would enhance the quality of life for all Anderson County citizens.
