The Sippin' in Simpsonville wine tasting has been such a popular event in downtown Simpsonville each spring that it's spawned a beer-tasting event in the fall. The second edition of Sippin' in Simpsonville's Oktoberfest is scheduled for Oct. 24 at 6 p.m.

Sponsored by the Simpsonville Area Chamber of Commerce, this year's event will feature 19 beer-tasting stations at shops along Main Street and Curtis Street. Guest check-in will be at the clock tower.

"It will mostly be craft beers, but there will be at least one cider," Oktoberfest coordinator Jason Hucks said, "We will have everything from stouts to Oktoberfest beers to IPAs to red ales. It's a wide variety of different beers from throughout the country as well as some international."

Each wine-tasting station will feature food samples of local cuisine.

"So for 15 bucks, you're getting 19 different beers and food, which is a heck of a deal," Hucks said. "And those funds will be donated to charities her in our local area. It's just a great evening."

There will be live entertainment with a DJ at one end of the tour and a solo performer at the other end. Hucks also has college football fans covered. If the Clemson game for Oct. 24 turns out to be a night game, Hucks will have it on a 12-foot screen in the parking lot of his business, Hucks Financial Services along South Main Street.

Tickets are $15 in advance, and includes a chance to sample each beer and food. A limited number of tickets will be available at the event for $20. Hucks said he expects the event to sell out like the Sippin' wine-tasting event did in May.

"We expect between 500 to 600 people to attend this year," Hucks said.

Proceeds will benefit the Main Street chapter of the Simpsonville Chamber, as well as Honor Flight Upstate SC. The event will also have a canned food for the Golden Strip Emergency Relief and Resource Agency. Those cans will be collected at check-in.
