The Swamp Rabbit?  An “actual” swamp rabbit is a larger cottontail rabbit that can swim and their typical habitats are wetlands, predominately in the south.  So what does this have to do with Greenville?  Well, in 2009 Greenville opened the “Swamp Rabbit Trail” stretching 17.5 miles from Downtown Greenville up to Travelers Rest.

This trail is a unique piece of history in our little flourishing town that runs along the old railway on the Reedy River dating back to 1889.  The railway at that time was known as the Carolina, Knoxville and Western Railway or C.K. and W. RR.   The railway was troubled with much adversity, namely solid rock, funding, and lawsuits thereby ending the project in 1909.

Today the trail is an un-motorized recreational way of transportation, connecting local businesses, schools and parks.  Go for a jog, or grab a bike at multiple rental locations for ONLY $5 a day in Downtown and enjoy a fun filled Saturday stroll.  If you make it as far as Travelers Rest there is a MUST stop for lunch know as The Café @ Williams Hardware! So, if you are moving to Greenville or toying with the idea we here at Jackson Stanley Realtors are hear for you so please contact us for our premium level of service.  For more on the Swamp Rabbit and what Greenville has to offer check out http://greenvillerec.com/swamprabbit.  We will see you on the trail!
